IN THE LIMELIGHT, MARA BRASOLA
We don’t meet people by accident; they are meant to cross our path for a reason.
That is exactly how I met Mara Brasola, February 2020, Boca Chica spay/neuter project, at the on-set of COVID. We arrived in Boca Chica for our spay/neuter project and everything that could go wrong was going wrong. We were left high and dry by the organizations we were doing the project with, etc etc.
Mara happened to be in the office of the hotel where we were staying as she is good friends with the owner and she was one of the main people who were going to bring in beach dogs and strays.
She is an Italian, who has lived in the Dominican Rep. for a long time, does not speak English but she could tell something was going down and I did not know how to fix it because it was my first time physically in the Dominican Republic, let alone in Boca Chica, and I had no additional funds to pick up the slack.
Happy BIG BIRTHDAY tomorrow,Mara!! To many more happy healthy birthdays!
Long story short, Mara graciously stepped in and made sure we had enough hotel rooms, enough individual beds, enough food for every day and transportation back to the airport on the day we were leaving. Every since, she has welcomed Caribbean Spay Neuter with open arms and invited us back every year to conduct spay/neuter projects with her.
It is because of Mara, her grace and humility that we/I have come to love the people of Boca Chica.
